The Grand Place in Brussels at a glance
The Grand Place is the central square of the Brussels old town. Guild houses, the Gothic Town Hall and the King's House, which holds the Brussels City Museum, surround it. UNESCO inscribed the site in 1998. There is no entrance ticket for the square itself, although events and security measures can close parts of it.
From the square you can walk to Manneken Pis, the Royal Galleries of Saint Hubert and the Îlot Sacré, the Sablon and the Mont des Arts. Chocolate and beer belong to a visit too, as museums, workshops and tastings. The Atomium, Bruges and Ghent are outings by metro or train.
This guide sets out what to see, what a visit costs in 2026 and how to plan around closures and seasons. Prices are in euros and can change, so check them before you book.

Our picks: tours, chocolate and day trips
For a first visit, the guided walk with chocolate gives the clearest overview of the centre. If you like tasting, pick the waffle and history route or the beer tasting; the Atomium and the Bruges and Ghent day trip suit a longer stay.
Hand-picked tours, booked through GetYourGuide. Prices are indicative starting prices in euros (as of October 2026). Tap a tour for live availability and the current price in your currency.

Plan your visit by type of trip
Four starting points, depending on how you travel.
A first visit
Start at the square, add the Town Hall and follow the old town order from the station to the Mont des Arts.
Old town →A rainy day
Rain falls in every month. The Town Hall inside visit at €15, the City Museum at €10 and the glass-roofed Royal Galleries give you dry stops close together.
Royal Galleries →Food and drink
Chocolate and beer come as museums, workshops and tastings. Both pages explain the formats without recommending a shop or a bar.
Chocolate →Beyond the centre
The Atomium sits on the Heysel plateau, reached by metro. Bruges, Ghent, Antwerp and Leuven are direct train rides.
Day trips →Grand Place Brussels: frequently asked questions

How do I get from the airport to the Grand Place?
From Brussels Airport the train to Bruxelles-Central takes about 18 minutes, with roughly 6 direct trains an hour. Central is about 5 minutes on foot from the square. From Charleroi, a shuttle bus runs to Bruxelles-Midi in about 55 minutes. See getting there.
When is the best time to visit?
May to September brings the mildest days, but rain falls in every month. The flower carpet comes every second year around 15 August, and the winter programme runs from 27 November 2026 to 3 January 2027. See the light show page.

Is grandplace.org the official site?
No. This is an independent travel guide with no link to the City of Brussels, visit.brussels, the Brussels-Capital Region or any museum, chocolatier, brewery or tour operator.
